Mini symposium: Patient perspectives in Biobanking Research

Time: Friday 20 November 2015 14:00-16:30

Place: The staff canteen 02-3-44, Studiegaarden, Studiestraede 6, 3rd floor, DK-1455 Copenhagen K

Organizer: Global Genes Local Concerns, a project financed by the University of Copenhagen's 2016 programme for excellent interdisciplinary research.

Global Genes – Local Concerns is pleased to announce a mini symposium on patients’ rights in the context of Biobanking.

Biobanking involves several stakeholders; each particular stakeholder translates its Biobanking activities differently. Therefore the practice of Biobanking should be surveyed against the background of the Biobanking institution along with due consideration of stakeholder interests. Patients form the most important stakeholder in the process. The role of patients in biobanking is changing from being seen simply as donors, to actual collaborators in the design, development and the running of biobanks. In this context the aim of the symposium is to understand the ethics and law of donation for biobanking from a Patients’ Perspective and to understand their changing role of the ‘Patient’ in Biobanks.
